ondoners have been hit hard by a bug that “feels like Covid but isn’t,” research shows.
Research by INEOS Hygienics showed that hundreds of thousands of people were out of work last week.
More than half of people surveyed said they felt “the sickest they’ve ever been” with a winter virus. Many people have reported feeling sick with a virus with Covid-like symptoms over the Christmas period and beyond, but then tested negative for the virus.
The investigation found nearly half [49%] of Londoners blame themselves for getting sick this winter, with carefree socializing [36%]poor hand hygiene [29%]poor diet [25%] and excess alcohol [18%] in the run-up to and during the holidays.
In the week ending 7 January 2023, INEOS Hygienics witnessed a 43 per cent increase in sales of its hand hygiene products compared to the previous week, highlighting that people are once again investing in preventive health.
Fran Millar, the company’s CEO, said: “More than three quarters [85%] of Londoners fear getting sick again this winter. So if hand washing fatigue has set in in your household, it’s worth remembering that just 30 seconds of regular use can reduce the feeling of bad weather for weeks.
“With more reports of hospitalizations and mounting pressure on the NHS, we need to act quickly to protect ourselves and those around us.
“Keeping our hands clean and sanitized is one of the most effective ways to avoid getting sick and to stop the spread of viruses and bacteria.”
