Stephen Colbert had some harsh words to say about Don Lemon’s outfit CNN this morning. The night show host increased The Late Show to express his grievances about Lemon’s attack which he felt was not appropriate for the news program.
Despite Colbert saying Lemon was “a dear, dear friend” and that he loves watching him on “CTM”, Aliens with Candy alum said he was “surprised” about Lemon wearing a jacket over a gray top and hooded pants.
“I believe a great man once said, ‘What the f*** is that?'” Colbert added. “I know they want to add some comedy to CNN and this is hilarious, but how do you bring the news in that outfit? How do you even talk about tragedy when you’re wearing that, because what could be more tragic than that look he had this morning?
Colbert continued to mock Lemon’s outfit, saying he looked like “a high school job teacher who went for a run and then got a little hungry and stopped at a restaurant, but it was too nice a restaurant and they said, ‘Sir, you have to wearing a coat.’ Then he stole a jacket from an extra Boys and dolls.”
Lemon addressed Colbert’s criticism on CNN’s morning show, saying he “loved Stephen Colbert” and said he “didn’t expect that reaction” from him.
“First of all, it’s not a sweatshirt or anything. It was a hooded sweater,” Lemon explained to his co-host Kaitlan Collins. “Anyway, I don’t know if I want to get into it because I was actually really surprised by it.”
Lemon kept saying he wore different outfits on the morning show and when he took the job they asked him to “be more comfortable.” The television journalist said that “people don’t wear suits that often” and “a lot has changed since the pandemic”.
“I just thought it was interesting that there was a reaction like that because I got a lot of negative reactions online,” he said.
Lemon said he now “understands” his female colleagues who are criticized for their outfits.
“If Barack Obama can be criticized for wearing a brown suit, if Volodymyr Zelenskyy can fight a war in a hoodie, if Trayvon Martin can start a revolution in a hoodie, then Don Lemon can break the news in a hoodie,” he added. up to it.
Collins asked Lemon if he would wear that outfit again and he replied, “Sure and I’ll wear it again, will wear some version of that.”
