‘Cobra Kai’ Season 6: Extended for final episodes, Netflix release date

Netflix rings the bell Cobra Kai: The karate dramedy has been renewed for Season 6 – and it will be last — announced the streamer on Friday.

Despite what series creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg call “bittersweet” news, they teased a possible continuation of the franchise “later.”

“Getting to know the world again with the The karate kid universe has been our humble honor,” the creators said in a letter to fans. “It has allowed us to play sensei, expand on the original storylines and give birth to a new generation of underdogs. We have never taken this opportunity for granted.

“Our goal on day 1 with Cobra Kai has always been to end it on our terms and leave the Valley in the time and place we’ve always imagined. While this may be a bittersweet day for the fandom, the Miyagiverse has never been stronger… We hope to share more The karate kid stories with you because as we all know: Cobra Kai never dies.”

Speaking to TVLine in 2021, Schlossberg hinted that a possible spin-off is indeed on the horizon.

“Any permutation of spinoff or deep dive comes to mind,” he said at the time. “It all has to be right, and it has to be of the same level of quality Cobra Kai is. Our mind is always thinking The karate kidso that possibility is definitely there.”

Cobra Kai debuted its 10-episode season 5 on September 9. In that season, Terry Silver’s (Thomas Ian Griffith) plans to expand his Cobra Kai empire came to fruition, as the sensei’s “No Mercy” style of karate was taught all over the valley. Now that Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) has (temporarily) put karate aside to focus on repairing the damage he’s done, Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) enlists the help of an old friend – former opponent Chozen Toguchi (Yuji Okumoto). The series also stars Xolo Maridueña, Mary Mouser, Jacob Bertrand, Gianni DeCenzo, Tanner Buchanan, Peyton List, Courtney Henggeler, Vanessa Rubio, Dallas Dupree Young and Martin Kove.
