Marisa Abela scored the coveted role in “Back to Black”…but when the first images of her on set were released this month – shockingly – social media was flooded with hateful comments.😲
Angry fans called Marisa a low-budget Amy who bears no resemblance to the late singer.
But Amy’s father, Mitch Wine House — who also manages her estate — disagrees, telling TMZ… Marisa is a great choice for the part, even if she doesn’t exactly look like Amy.
As Mitch sees it, Marisa is Marisa and Amy is Amy… so it doesn’t matter if they aren’t mirror images.
Eddie Marsan plays Amy’s father in the film, and Mitch comments that Eddie doesn’t look like him either.
Amy’s dad says there’s too much emphasis on looks… because there are plenty of Hollywood examples of actors who don’t look like their real characters.
The one that comes to mind for Mitch is ‘Night and Day’, where the handsome Carey Grant plays famous composer and songwriter Cole Porterwho was never considered handsome.
The internet may not agree, but Amy’s dad is on board with Marisa’s casting.
